Growing gardens in BC since 1990
- An outstanding blend of organically based nutrients formulated to promote vigorous growth, healthy root systems and bountiful harvests in your vegetable garden.
- Specially designed to meet the specific growing needs of vegetables and tomatoes, this high analysis plant food features extra nutrients essential to the plant’s fruit production and growth.
- High in potash for strong stems (i.e. tomatoes) and for aiding in the ripening and development of vegetables.
WHEN TO USE
- Use on complete garden area before planting, or during planting time on individual transplants and/or rows of seed.
- Fertilize again 6-8 weeks after planting.
HOW TO USE
PREPARE GARDEN:
Before planting vegetables, prepare soil and apply Vegetable & Flower Food using the following guidelines:
- Prepare soil as required. Apply dolomite lime if soil is acidic and work in manure to increase organic content. (Please see lime package for specific rates of application).
- Measure area (length x width) and spread fertilizer evenly at the rate of 1kg per 10m2 (105sqft), using a broadcast spreader or by hand.
- Work into the top 10cm (4”) of soil and water thoroughly.
APPLYING FERTILIZER:
For established plants, or when fertilizing during planting time, these steps apply:
- PLANTS – Fertilize individual transplants with one small handful (30g) of fertilizer per plant. Distribute evenly around the plant and work lightly into the top 2½cm (1”) of soil. Water in well.
- SEEDS – Before planting seeds, apply fertilizer at the rate of one small handful (30g) per meter of row. Apply between the rows and work into the soil. Plant seeds and water in well, but don’t flood.
- Fertilize again in midseason (June/July) using the same ratio.
TOMATO TIPS:
- As tomatoes begin to form, sprinkle 30g (one small handful) of Vegetable & Flower Food around the base of the plant and work into the soil, being careful not to disturb the roots. Water well and repeat as necessary.
- Before planting, select either dark, green stocky plants 10-15cm tall (4-6”) or good quality seeds which are certified against seed-borne diseases. Prepare soil as for vegetables and follow instructions for planting.
- For green and leafy vegetables (and for good quality corn), side dress with 21-0-0 sulphate of ammonia or another high nitrogen fertilizer when small plants are 5cm (2”) high.
